This is a little recipe my mother called hole in the bread eggs
In a cast iron pan large enough to hold the bread
Melt about 1 tablespoon of butter
While the butter is heating, rip a hole in the center of both pieces of bread about the size of an egg yolk. (I lay the bread on a butcher block and punch out the hole with a shot glass)
When the butter is hot place the two pieces of bread into the pan
Allow to cook until brown
Add another tablespoon butter
Turn
Crack the eggs and place them on the bread in a manner in which the yolks are in the holes.
Salt and pepper
Cook until the yolk is set enough not to break when turned
Turn
Cook until done
This should give you a piece of toast with an egg on top The
yolk should be
soft so when you cut pieces of the toast it can
be dipped into the yolk
